Tyler Spangler
I came across Tyler Spangler on Instagram, I bought one of his prints online and hung it up in my room. He's done work for Adobe, Coach, Gucci, Hermès, Instagram, Nike, and the United Nations.
Kaws
I was somewhat familiar with Brian Donnelly aka Kaws before I saw it at the Moco Museum in Amsterdam. I really love the Elmo chair. Kaws designed jhope's Jack in the Box album which was really cool to see.
David LaChapelle
David LaChapelle's work is very distinctive, there's a lot of religious imagery, it's very vibrant, over the top, campy, a lot of bright colours and movement. He's shot a lot of iconic magazine and album covers, like Travis Scott's Astroworld (2018), Mariah Carey's Rainbow (1999) and Doja Cat's Planet Her (2021). He also shot Britney Spears' first Rolling Stone cover in 1999 and directed the Everytime (2003) music video. I didn't even know until I was doing a bit of research for this that he shot the Planet Her album. So cool.
Hiro Murai
Hiro Murai has worked with Childish Gambino/Donald Glover many times over the years. He is one of the directors of Atlanta (2016-2022) and shot the iconic This is America (2018) music video.
Banksy
I don't love everything Banksy's ever done but I can't say that about any artist, but these are a few examples of his work that I like. The 'Home Sweet Home' has a bit of an eery feel to it, I don't know if that's intentional. Maybe the red wall it's hung on is giving me more of that vibe.
Matsui
I came across Matsui, a Japanese illustrator, on Instagram, I just love the simplicity of the work, the primary colours, it's really cute. It reminds me a little bit of the drawing style used for Miffy.
Chris McCrae
I saw this Chris McCrae 'Urge' print (I believe it's a play on Burger King) featured in the 250th Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art. I bought the postcard version of it and hung it up.
Mika Ninagawa
Mika Ninagawa is a Japanese photographer and director. My mum brought back some postcards of her work from the Tokyo Art and Photography exhibition in Oxford.
Andy Warhol
One of the first art styles I got into from a young age was pop art. It goes without saying that Andy Warhol is legendary.
