Last year I went on a staycation to Bristol for 2 nights. It was my first time visiting the city, and it had been 2 years since I had been on a plane because of the pandemic. I'm sure it comes as no surprise that there's a big art scene since it's the home of Banksy. I loved seeing the street art and the architecture, there were pretty pastel coloured houses everywhere! Also I'm not sure if this typical for Bristol, but when I went there were a lot of cats. Every time I spotted one (which was quite often) I'd say hi and take a photo.
We went to Arnolfini, a contemporary arts centre/gallery space. The name comes from Jan van Eyck’s The Arnolfini Portrait (1434). We went for a beer at the Arnolfini Harbourside Bar, which was outside in a sort of tent/gazebo type thing. It was a really sunny October day which made it even more pleasant 🍺
The hotel we stayed in was lovely and the staff were nice and helpful. I was in my element cause I love hotels. The room even came with a towel dressing gown and slippers. I woke up early, made myself a cup of tea and watched a bit of Netflix (bliss tbh) before heading out for the day.

My favourite thing was the Voi e-scooters. I kept seeing students hopping on and off these red scooters which were parked everywhere. I made it my goal to get on one before we left because it looked so fun. They can go up to 15.5 mph! Apparently the speed was capped at 10 mph during the initial trial period. In order to use the scooter, you needed to download the Voi app and show proof of your Provisional/Driving license, and do a sobriety test (I don't know if this was the process at any time of day, but when I did it was probably about 10pm). It charged £1 to unlock the scooter and then 20p per minute once you were on it. It was probably a 5-minute scoot back to the hotel I was staying at. I had never been on an e-scooter before, so deliberately chose a time of day when the roads were quiet and there weren't many cars around!
Defo recommend Bristol! It was a short stay but I really enjoyed it.
