I spent a lot of my childhood playing The Sims 2, so it’s always going to feel nostalgic to me. Here are some things that remain iconic, in my opinion. I revisited it during lockdown when I was a bit of a loss for what to do with my time while cooped up indoors.

1. Aliens 👽

The cutaway scenes were a big part of what made the game entertaining/atmospheric for me. The fact that your Sim could literally be abducted if they used the telescope too much was hilarious 🛸

2. Motherlode 💰

Your Sim is is financial ruin? Don't sweat it, you can cheat their way to financial stability.

Simoleons 🤑

I just love the fact that the Sims 2 currency is 'Simoleons'

3. The Grim Reaper

When your Sim sadly passed away (either from old age or from a tragic pool ladder incident) Death would pay them a visit

4. Building Houses 🏠

(Not built by me)

I used to watch people on YouTube building really impressive houses, and I would try to recreate them 😆 far too much time was spent, success rate was fairly low

5. Aspirations 👤

If your Sims aspirations were low, they would have a mental breakdown (any time this happened in my game was not intended, I promise)

6. Breaking the Fourth Wall 👁👄👁

Occasionally your Sim would break the fourth wall and just stare directly at you, a little unnerving

7. So Many Glitches 👾

If you used cheats your game was usually more prone to glitches

8. Ghosts 👻

The Sims 2 had a lot of supernatural aspects to it, like ghosts who will jump out and terrify your Sims

Overall, a pretty entertaining game but you know you're in too deep when you start caring about your Sims' goals and aspirations more than your own.
